In a bid to tackle the mounting problem of laptop theft, Autosafe International has launched a new security lock that will fit every make and model on the market.
The CubeByteT is designed to fit in the security slot positioned at the back of the laptop, with a twist of the key it simply locks in place. The high security cable can than be wrapped around a secure fixture, such as a desk, table or chair enabling users to leave the laptop unmanned with the assurance that it can't be pinched.
Autosafe cited changing lifestyles as the reason why more laptops are being stolen than ever before. Our vulnerability is heightened by the number of people hot desking, working from trains, planes and internet cafes, to name just a few, according to Gordon Frewin, sales and marketing director at Autosafe International. "Taking a short break or leaving the laptop unmanned on the train when we go for a coffee can lure opportunistic thieves," he said.
The problem also filters down to the younger generation, many of whom now use laptops in school or university. Frewin adds, "Leaving a laptop on your desk while you pop out for some lunch is simply asking for trouble. You wouldn't leave your bike unlocked for fear of it being stolen, so why leave your laptop unlocked?"
A recent survey from AutoSafe International found that in 56 laptops there were as many as 37 different security slots proving there is no such thing as a standard size. Unlike conventional security locks that may fit only certain models, CubeByteT features a patented mechanism that automatically adjusts to the depth of the security slot within the laptop. In tests, CubeByteT has been proven to fit 100 per cent of all laptops on the market.
